Project Design
JAFER will consist of multiple components, written in Java, and made available under an Open Source licence agreement. The benefits of this approach are:
- Java is cross platform and runs on Unix, Linux, Windows and Macintosh platforms.
- There are an increasing number of code libraries being added to Java for emerging Internet technologies such as LDAP, XML etc.
- The software components can be enhanced and maintained by contributors after the project ends.
It will take account of emerging technologies from the library and information sections as well as those from the World Wide Web Consortium and XML communities.
